Children in Reception through to Year 2 take part in the National fruit scheme, which means that a range of fruits and vegetables are provided every day – free! In Reception classes we also provide some bread based snacks with healthy spreads and healthy low sugar cereals. However, children in these year groups are welcome to bring in their own snack instead.
In Key Stage 2 (Years 3+), we allow the children to bring a snack in to have at break time.
Help your child to get their ‘five a day’ by including some fruit or vegetables as a snack for their morning break / snack time.
Children need more or less energy (calories) depending on their age and stage of development. Some bread-based snacks can therefore help to meet these extra energy needs and help your child feel more satisfied.
Snacks should ideally be provided in a small, named container and they must be kept separate from packed lunches. (Children will not be allowed to take snacks from their lunchboxes.) If a spoon is needed, this must be brought from home too.
Children cannot share snacks with others. Despite sharing being an innocent and kind act, there are children in the school with allergies and intolerances.
